Your eternal future is secure in Christ because of His love.
In the previous article we learned Christ is our advocate and how that secures our salvation.
In our study of Romans 8:31-39, we are now ready to examine the final two questions Paul asks to help emphasize the believer’s eternal security.
In the final series in this article we find Paul asking in Romans 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? and he follows that up immediately with another question: Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
We have learned in the previous passages that it is “the love of Christ” for believers that binds us to Christ.
In Romans 8:35 Paul list seven things that have the potential to come between us and Christ love
Tribulation
Distress
Persecution
Famine
Nakedness
Peril
Sword
We are Victorious in Christ
Paul knows first hand about this as he experienced much hardship. See 2 Cor. 11:23-28. Paul wants us to know that we will suffer hardships and persecutions as we go through our life. But no matter how much we suffer these things do not have the power to separate us from Christ’s love.
To make this point In Romans 8:37 he cries victory! He states loud and clear nothing can break the relationship we have with Christ. Despite all the tribulations we may suffer in life, we are more than conquerors.
We are victorious in Christ. We have been reconciled, justified and declared righteous by Christ’s work on the cross. There is nothing that can separate us from the love of Christ. We are his forever. No matter how much we suffer we are secure in Christ.
Nothing can Separate us from the Love of God
To reinforce this Paul concludes in Romans 8:38-39 the safety of the believer by emphatically declaring nothing shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
For I am persuaded that
neither death nor life,
nor angels nor principalities
nor powers, nor things present
nor things to come,
nor height nor depth,
nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Wow! Because of God’s great expression of love on the cross we are eternally His. The list Paul prepared shows us how secure we are in Christ. There is absolutely nothing that can separate us from God’s love.
Your future is secure in Christ. If you have not yet trusted in Christ, won’t you do so now and experience the power of God’s love.
