Saved by grace is a powerful phrase. God does not have any tolerance for sin. Because of sin the whole world is cursed and sentenced to death. We deserve to be cast into hell but instead we are being offered eternal life by trusting in Christ.
When Christ was put to death on the cross, God could have brought His righteous judgement down on Mankind. However, thankfully God had a secret plan to offer salvation through Christ because of his love for the world.
—John 3:16 NKJV “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
God stayed His hand of judgement out of his mercy and love so that he could offer salvation to the whole world.
—1 Timothy 2:4 NKJV “who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
Salvation – Free Gift
Our Salvation, this free gift being offered by God was planned before the world began. This gift of God to sinful man is made available to us through Christ and Christ alone. This is the only way we can receive it. Out of God’s long-suffering, we are being given this great opportunity for life.
—2 Timothy 1:9 NKJV “who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began,”
—Ephesians 2:10 NKJV “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
—Titus 2:11 NKJV “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,”
Amazing Grace – Saved by Grace
The grace of God is amazing. It is freely given by God. You don’t have to do anything to earn it. There is nothing you need to do keep it and it can never be taken away. We have been saved by the grace of God.
Grace is the undeserved favor of God. It is worth reinforcing that we don’t deserve it, we can’t earn it and it is freely given to sinners. This was not begrudgingly done on God’s part but willing. He has a strong desire to see us saved because of His love. This grace embodies God’s mercy, kindness, and love.
How great to be on the receiving end of God’s undeserved favor. We deserve condemnation but are receiving salvation by the sacrifice of His Son, dying on the cross for undeserving sinners. Imagine this amazing love of God, that for you and me, undeserving sinners, He sent His only begotten Son to the cross, so that we could have life and fellowship with Him.
There was only one reason for Christ to die that agonizing death on the cross. That reason was for us. We are given life, through the gift of Christ. By His substitutionary death for us, God is able to provide us with enteral life. We are Saved by grace and given the hope of eternal life.
—Ephesians 1:7 NKJV “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace”
—1 Timothy 1:15 NKJV “This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief”
—Romans 3:24 NKJV “being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,”
—Titus 3:7 NKJV “that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”
God’s Grace
As guilty man, we are declared righteous by the payment of Christ’s blood on the cross for our sins. Everything required for salvation has been provided by God. By His love and His great desire to see mankind saved, He freely offers us the gift of life.
—Ephesians 2:8–9 NKJV “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
This shows we can’t save ourselves but God is the agent of our salvation. This is a very unique gift because only God is qualified to give this gift of life. Grace is a wonderful exhibition of God’s love toward underserving sinners.
—Romans 5:6 NKJV “For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.”
