Renew Your Mind through the Study of God’s Word

by admingp

fruits, Nourish Your Mind with word of GodThe believers is issued a command to renew your mind. Why is this important? It is because Our mind is valuable real estate in an ongoing spiritual war. To this cause Scripture exhorts us to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind”.

God wants to equip believers to serve Him. As believers we are not live according to the pleasures of this world but by what is good and the will of God.

Renew Your Mind

To withstand the lusts of this world and the snares of the devil, and immorality that weakens us, we are to present ourselves to the service of God.

The first step is a transformation of our thinking that takes place by the diligent study of God’s Word. This is where scripture is making a call to renew your mind.

Rom. 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

The Enemies Trap

The god of this world is Satan and he wants to thwart God’s plans at every opportunity. He wants to make believers ineffectual workers for God. He has many tools in his arsenal including distractions and distorting the truth of God’s Word. He loves to discredit believers and see Christians stumble in their lives.

His purpose is to dilute our credibility and our ability to understand God’s word so it loses its power in our lives. Satan cannot snatch the believer away from God, but he will be more than happy to keep us from sharing God’s saving message to others. The battle for the believer is taking place in our mind (intellect) and we need to be prepared.

Feed our Minds with God’s Word

We are to strive on a regular basis to live our lives in the perfect will of God. To do this we need to be able to discern the lies of Satan from the truths of God. We need to allow the Holy Spirit to transform us by the renewing of our minds.

In order to meet God’s desire to renew your mind,  we need to feed our minds with a regular intake of bible doctrine. Only through this will we be able to begin replacing our selfish ungodly thoughts with the wisdom of God. Through this regular intake of God’s Word, our mind will be cleansed so that our thinking will be changed to be aligned with the will of God.

Nourish yourself with the Word of God, so that you can be an effective servant for God, instead of a servant crippled by the deceptions of Satan. God encourages us to renew our minds through the study of the scriptures and by doing so our focus will remain on God.

Phil. 4:8-9 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.

Col. 1:9-10 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;

What is the hope of the cross?

I know Christ died my death on the cross so that I may have eternal life. But in everyday life what does that mean to a believer. It certainly does not take the bumps out of the road of life.

The truth about Christ's painful death on the cross is that Christ did not come to remove our human sufferings but to show us a way through it to all of the heavenly blessings beyond.

Eph 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,.

He has given us the strength to survive our tribulations until we are called home. His death on the cross is our guarantee!

That is the hope of the cross.
