Our sin nature has tainted us and made us utterly foul. There is nothing worthy about us. We deserve death and sin is our master. Thankfully, God in His love reached down and by His grace we have redemption in Christ. By placing our faith in Christ’s finished work on the cross. we have been freed from the penalty of sin and sin is no longer our master.
—Romans 5:8 NKJV “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
—Ephesians 1:7 NKJV “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace”
All Have Sinned
We were born into this world as sinners and as such we deserve to face the wrath of God and have been condemned to death.
—Romans 3:23 NKJV “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”
—Romans 6:23 NKJV “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Christ Uniquely Qualified
Although we were undeserving, God was offering us redemption in Christ. The forgiveness of sins is based on the shed blood of Christ. Had Christ not died on the cross our salvation would have been impossible. His obedient death was the only way for man to be liberated from sin. His substitutionary death paid the penalty for our sin and released mankind from its bondage.
—Hebrews 9:22 NKJV “And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.”
This act of Christ was a significant spiritual event that made us citizens of heaven. We were immediately transformed from dead sinners to being made alive and righteous in Christ. He is the cornerstone of the gospel of grace as He was uniquely qualified to delivers us from sin.
- Christ was sinless in His nature (not born of man) and lived a sinless life
- He was perfectly faithful to God and by that had the righteousness of God
—Philippians 3:9 NKJV “and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;”
Death in Adam, Redemption in Christ
Mankind inherited sin and the sentence of death from Adam. This condition is inherit in our nature and condemns us to death. We could not redeem ourselves, The only way we could be freed from condemnation and death was through Christ
—Romans 5:12 NKJV “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned—”
Only Christ could save us. We received death from Adam but life from Christ. We have redemption in Christ as he set us free by paying the price for our sin. It was His shed blood that purified us and allows us to “become the righteousness of God in Him”
—Romans 5:20–21 NKJV “Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
—Titus 2:14 NKJV “who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.”
Redemption In Christ
Because of our Redemption in Christ, we have been freed from the penalty of sin. We can shout with joy now that the burden of sin has been lifted. We are no longer under condemnation and have been given liberty to serve God.
—Romans 8:1 NKJV “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.”
By the grace of God, Christ has made a wonderful sacrifice for you. If you have not yet trusted in Him for your salvation, please take the opportunity now so you can be the recipient of His love.
