Newness of Life; A New Spiritual Life

by admingp

Flower, Newness of Life

All believers have been invested with a new spiritual life. In our union with Christ, we begin a new journey. As Christ was raised from the dead, so are we. Because of our new indwelling Spirit we are exhorted to “walk in newness of Life”.

—Romans 6:4 NKJV “Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”

New Nature

We are now new creatures perfect in Christ and free from the power of sin. As new creatures we are designed to serve God. The old nature we inherited from Adam was crucified with Christ. This corrupt nature has been defeated, is dying and is no longer our master.

However, while we still wear these corruptible bodies our corrupt nature is actively vying for control. Thankfully, The Spirit that indwells us gives us strength to overcome this challenge so that we no longer need to be slaves to our sin nature. We have a new life in Christ unto righteousness and are now empowered to live for God.

Our new nature is the beginning of a new life. This new life we received by our identification with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection. We are no longer identified with Adam but with Christ.

—Romans 4:25 NKJV “who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification.”

Justified by Christ

Our new life was made possible because Christ died for our sins and then three days later rose from the dead. His resurrection is the key to our hope, because just as He was raised, we will be raised and made acceptable to God.

Since we have been justified by Christ we have been made acceptable to God, which has given us a new life that is righteous in the eyes of God. We received this new life by grace through faith by accepting what Christ has accomplished for us on the cross.

When he was dying on the cross, he was dying our death and when we trusted in Him for paying the penalty of our sins, we became one in Christ. By this identification we were made one with Him in death, burial, and resurrection. This oneness in Christ is the foundation of our new life. It has untied us to Christ forever. This is our new birth and as believers we have been given a new spiritual life.

Walk in Newness of Life

We have been given a very high honor and this new spiritual life came at a high price. God sacrificed His son so that we may live. Not only that but He blessed with all spiritual blessings in the heavenliness.

The believer is entreated to reflect on all the riches we have in Christ and walk in honor of the one who bestowed this wonderful gift upon us. In everything we do we should try to please the Lord.

—Ephesians 4:1 NKJV “therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called,”

What is the hope of the cross?

I know Christ died my death on the cross so that I may have eternal life. But in everyday life what does that mean to a believer. It certainly does not take the bumps out of the road of life.

The truth about Christ's painful death on the cross is that Christ did not come to remove our human sufferings but to show us a way through it to all of the heavenly blessings beyond.

Eph 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,.

He has given us the strength to survive our tribulations until we are called home. His death on the cross is our guarantee!

That is the hope of the cross.
