As a lost sinner our hope is Christ. That hope can give you meaning and focus in your life.
What is the worst thing that could happen to a person? There are a lot of bad things that can happen to a person: losing your job, losing your hearing or eyesight, suffering from disease, catastrophes such as earth quakes, and tragic accidents. This sounds like a grim list but by far the worst thing that can happen to a person is to have no hope.
Hope: Confident Expectation to be with Christ
Our true hope as Christians is in the Lord Jesus Christ. As believers we eagerly await for Christ to take us out of this world; to be with Him and the redemption of our body.
—Romans 8:23–25 NKJV “Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body. For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.”
Knowing that our hope is Christ, as believers have something more valuable than the most wealthy and powerful people on earth. We have the precious knowledge that Christ is our savior and we have a great inheritance in Him . He is our true hope. Through Him we are promised a glory that will never fade.
Luke 9:25 “For what advantage is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost?
Romans 8:17-18 and if children, then heirs–heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
So, while on earth we may face terrible circumstances, we can survive this because our hope is Christ, not the things of this world. We will soon trade in the sorrows of this world for our inheritance in Christ.
2Corinthians 4:17-18 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
Our time on earth is only temporary, so spend your time wisely, and proclaim the good news of salvation because that is the only true solution to all the pain and suffering all around us.
Share the Beacon of Hope
We are charged with the duty to proclaim this message because the Son died on the cross, so that everyone could have everlasting life.
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
If the Son gave his life and we are ambassadors of Christ, it is our responsibility to share that message with the world. Our coworkers, friends, family members, and strangers on the street need to hear this message of hope so they can share in this good news.
2Timothy 1:8-10 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began, but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel,
As believers we need to wave this beacon of hope. We need to give those around us the opportunity to hear the word, so if they have a willing mind God can give them understanding.
Hope for the Future
How wonderful that our hope is Christ. We have the comfort of knowing we are safe in the hand of God and have been guaranteed eternal life and blessed with every spiritual blessing.
John 10:28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.
Eph 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,.
Romans 6:22-23 But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
In Christ, God has given us the strength to survive our tribulations until we are called home. But without Christ we have no hope. So, If you have not yet trusted in Christ please consider doing that now.
